July 19 hearing for Lynas application

KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court here has set July 19 to hear an inter-parte injunction application by Lynas against SMSL Sdn Bhd and its two directors to restrain them from publishing defamatory statement against it.

SMSL lead counsel Datuk Bastian Pius Vendargon said Lynas has served an affidavit on them on Monday.

"We will reply," he said here yesterday, adding that both parties had submitted written submissions over the injunction to the court. High Court judge Justice John Louis O'Hara set July 19 to hear the application.

Lynas Corporation Ltd and Lynas Malaysia Sdn Bhd are the plaintiffs in the civil action.

In an endorsement of claim filed on April 19, Lynas named SMSL and its two directors Tan Bun Teet and Lim Sow Teow as defendants.

Lynas claimed the defendants published defamatory statement against them through an article titled "Civil Society Organisation's joint statement on Lynas issue: SMSL & NGOs statement against Lynas" published in the company's blog, dated March 22.
