Anti-Lynas group to have their day in court tomorrow

PETALING JAYA: A judicial review against the court's approval of a temporary operating licence (TOL) for Lynas Corporation's rare earth processing plant in Gebeng, Kuantan, will be heard tomorrow at the High Court in Kuantan.

The appeal is filed by anti-Lynas group Save Malaysia Stop Lynas (SMSL).

SMSL spokesperson Tan Bun Teet in a statement said legal action against the company is also being prepared in its home-state of Australia, where the rare earth is mined in Mount Weld.

"Since last March when we first heard of the Lynas project, we sought advice from the relevant experts.

"As responsible citizens, we raised our concerns with the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI), Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (Mosti) and also the prime minister," said Tan, adding that the parties had not responded to the issues raised.
