PR pledges to be nudear free

GEORGE TOWN: Pakatan Rakyat has pledged that the country will be nuclear-free if it manages to take over Putrajaya in the coming general election.

Penang PR defacto head Lim Guan Eng said the triparty coalition will not allow projects detrimental to public health.

"There will be no nuclear power plants in Malaysia if you vote for us," he said at a press conference yesterday.

The DAP secretarygeneral's comments follow reports that federal authorities have identified seven sites for nuclear power plants - one in Kedah and two each in Perak, Terengganu andjohor.

T im also said that the coalition will close down the controversial rare earth processing Lynas Advanced Materials Plant in Gebeng, Pahang, if it assumes federal control


The Penang chief minister added that the current administration will also not allow any nuclear power plants to be built in the state.

He said the state government had written a letter to Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Peter Chin Fah Kui informing that they intend to be nuclear-free.
