MPs to debate Lynas report today

THE much awaited report from the Lynas parliamentary select committee (PSC) was tabled yesterday and a heated debate is expected today over its findings and recommendations.

Deputy Speaker Datuk Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said the report was embargoed until the debate.

The Lynas PSC is made up of five members of parliament. It is headed by Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.


The members are Abdul Rahman Dahlan (BN-Kota Belud), Teng Boon Soon (BN-Tebrau), Nancy Shukri (BN-Batang Sadong), Liang Teck Meng (BN-Simpang Renggam) and Datuk Zulkifli Noordin (Independent- Kulim Bandar Baru).

Pakatan Rakyat was offered three spots in the PSC but it refused to participate.

The PSC had carried public hearings in Kuala Lumpur and Kuantan to get feedback from the public over the rare earth plant in Gebeng and had also visited the plant.
