Himpunan Hijau to occupy Balok-Gebeng for 24 hours

PETALING JAYA~ The anti-Lynas Himpunan Hijau 2.0 coalition will hold a 24-hour protest in Balok and Gebeng in Kuantan to highlight their opposition to the Lynas rare earth plant.

The protest, called "Occupy Balok-Gebeng 24 Hours" will kick off at noon on June23 in Balok and end the next day in Gebeng. Both Balok and Gebeng are located near the Lynas plant.

"We expect Malaysians from all over the country to converge on Balok-Gebeng to kick out Lynas, and reiterate our strongest commitment to uphold environmental justice," Himpu-nan Hijau chief Wong Tack said in a statement yesterday.

Wong also took Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Sen Dr Maximus Ongkili to task over the temporary operating licence for the plant.

Ongkili is expected to make a decision on the matter soon.

"How much longer do you want to play gaines with us? We challenge you to issue the TOL, or even a permanent licence, if you dare," said Wong.
