Exciting and enriching experience

RECENTLY, Olympia College's Penang Student Council Committee was invited to participate in the Youth Parliament Programme.

A total number of 150 youths attended the inaugural Mobile Youth Parliament sitting at Universiti Sains Malaysia's (USM) Dewan Persidangan Universiti. The event was organised by the Malaysian Social Intellect and Capacity Building Association (Pemkis).

Four motions were debated during the event. The motions included "Employers want employees who have work experience compared with higher qualifications", "There should be automatic voter registration of youths at the age of 21", "The Federal Government should not be blamed for moral decay of youths" and "The Lynas project brings more harm than good". The first motion was rejected while the others were accepted.

At the end of the session, the participants were given a certificate of participation. This was good exposure for the students to enhance their knowledge and debating skills.

According to project director S. Sumathi, the programme was held to empower the youths and hone their skills in mature debates.

Since its inception, Olympia College has been continuously growing. The college now has international students from various exotic and far-reaching places.

The college allows everyone from SPM students to working adults entry at various points. Programmes conducted are both fulltime and part-time.
