500 DAUN members gather in Kuantan to support Lynas project

KUANTAN: The Pahang federation of non-governmental organizations in support of the national agenda (DAUN) today staged a peaceful gathering here to express their support for the governmentbacked Lynas project. About 500 members, including those from Pertubuhan Peribumi Perkasa (PERKASA), the federation of Peninsular Malay students (GPMS), Pekida and Mukim Sungai Karang/ Beserah humanitarian welfare organisation were at the Padang Kemunting grounds for half an hour, starting 10.00am.

Operations coordinator Zulfadzli Shamsudin said the 43 NGOs that formed Daun called on the project to proceed as it would boost the state's economy and provide employment opportunities for the local community.

"Since the Lynas issue surfaced, a lot of information had been twisted and the federation plays a role in providing an explanation and presently many youths who realised this have joined us to play their respective role," he said. -Bernama
